Analea Ranch – An exclusive and rare opportunity to purchase lands teeming in rich history and embodying old Hawaii. This 46.57-Acre off-grid retreat features large acreage with a luxury cottage & historic charm. (Two parcels included in this sale: 3-8-1-4-97 and 3-8-1-4-1).
The soil is rich and supports many old growth monkeypod, kukui, fig and mango trees. It was the only land on the west side to be planted in sugar cane. The property has been cleared and is covered in cattle grass which is lovingly maintained. The Ranch was purchased prior to construction of the by pass, which connects Alii Dr with Napo’opo’o road. During construction the County provided two entrances to the Ranch. One is on far north end, one of far south end. Completion of the by pass opened up real estate that had previously not been accessible. The Ranch is now just 5 minutes from Keauhou Shopping center, 5 minutes from Kona Community Hospital, and 15 minutes from Kealakekua Bay.
The property is Ag-5 and once water has been addressed and with County approval could possibly become 5 acres parcels.

The Ranch lies within both the Onouli I and Kalukalu 3 ahuapuaa. The portion within Onouli I was given to Analea Keohokalole (1826-1869) by Royal Patent 4365. She was the mother of Queen Lydia Liliuokalani and King David Kalakaua.
The property was planted in sugar cane starting in the 1870s to supply the sugar mill located at Waiaha above the town of Kailua. The Kona Sugar company operated the mil from 1891-1901. In 1901 the company constructed an elevated narrow gauge railroad running 11 miles from the mill to its terminus, just south of the southern boundary. The railroad was subsequently owned by James Castel who formed the Kona Development Company, and later the West Hawaii Railroad Company. Operations ceased after the harvest in 1926. The property came under the ownership of the Greenwell family and cattle were introduced until it was purchased in a trust in 2009.
The Ranch perimeter is enclosed by a 4 foot high dry stack wall system, constructed using lava stones saved from clearing the land. The property was walked and inventoried by an archeological team and their report is filed with the State of Hawaii. The team identified 3 historic structures which must be maintained, and discerned no burial sites anywere on the property. The sites to be maintained are the railroad bed and western boundary, the 2 ahupuaa stone boundary walls. The structures have since been repaired. In addition, two large stone loading ramps were constructed for the pulley and cable transport of sugar to the railroad have also been repaired.
The most attractive house site for the larger home exists on the south parcel.
